Mercedes-Benz has revealed a new addition to its range – but this particular model will be more at home on the fairway than the freeway. That’s because the new model is in fact a golf cart, or “Golf Car”, as the company is calling it – and this being Mercedes, the Garia Golf Car is a golf cart to end all golf carts. It’s built from carbon fibre, and comes complete with leather seats LED headlamps and a heated windscreen – features more usually found on Mercedes’s road cars.
The driver and passenger have a view through a large, curved windscreen. The carbon-fibre roof is different in colour and form from the base vehicle. The sporty impression is heightened by a small rear spoiler which acts as a golf bag holder and accommodates two golf bags slanted rearwards. A carbon-fibre diffuser rounds off the lower rear end as a lighthearted reference to the vehicle’s character as a “real sports car“.
The Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car, to give it its full name, is also equipped with a fridge for storing food and beverages and GPS in order to provide you with your location on a map of the course.
This is displayed on a 10.1in dashboard-mounted tablet, which will also be able to show an electronic scorecard to allow you to keep tabs on the round. Users will also be able to check the weather, and to use Bluetooth to stream their music from their phone to the built-in speakers.
As its name suggests, the Golf Car has been designed and built with the support of Garia, a leading luxury golf cart manufacturer.
An electric motor has an output of three kilowatts, but can also make up to eleven kilowatts available for short periods. This is enough to give the Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car a governed top speed of 30 km/h with a range of up to 80 kilometres. The charging time for the lithium-ion battery is six hours.
No details have yet been released on the price of the Mercedes Golf Car, and you’ll have to wait if you want to get hold of one – Mercedes isn’t planning to release it for sale until next year.
