Surpassing all expectations, successful JEC World 2022 reaffirms its global leadership and shows the dynamism of the composites industry

The global composites community reunited at JEC World from May 3rd to 5th for 3 busy rewarding days of innovation, networking and knowledge sharing. The industry was excited to reconnect and the show exceeded all expectations in terms of product launches, content and business activity. The event welcomed 32,000+ professional visits, in Paris and online, from 115 countries and featured 1,201 exhibitors and 26 pavilions.

Nuovi tessuti hi-tech a basso impatto ambientale, con fibre di carbonio riciclate

Elettronica integrata nei rivestimenti interni delle automobili grazie all’impiego di tessuti hi-tech realizzati con scarti di fibra di carbonio. È uno degli obiettivi del progetto di ricerca industriale TEX-STYLE che vede la partecipazione, tra gli altri, di ENEA e del Centro Ricerche Fiat (CRF) come coordinatore. Alla base un mix tra fibra di carbonio e poliestere per la creazione di un tessuto intelligente e soprattutto a basso impatto ambientale.

Sustainable and thermal insulating composite materials: cements containing recycled textile microfibres

Every year a large amount of textile waste is generated by the fashion sector. Recently this phenomenon has rapidly worsened due to the spread of the “fast fashion” concept, based on a linear economic model and mass consumption. The desire to reduce process environmental impact and the objective to create new business with waste products pushed a consortium’s companies to start a research project in collaboration with the Department of Engineering Enzo Ferrari. The Carbon 1 MK II is the world’s first carbon fiber smartphone, developed to show the next generation of sustainable, high-performance technologies. Curved sandwich composite panels

In order to reduce waste and production time in the construction of large composite structures, the Dutch-based company Curve Works has developed an approach based on the assembly of composite panels. A series of double-curvature composite sandwich panels has been produced for a variety of applications using an automated adaptive mold both to thermoform 3D core kits and to infuse parts.

Deployable habitat for a future lunar outpost

The realization of a human settlement on the Moon is the main purpose of most future space missions. Despite it represents a fundamental and necessary step for this scope, the lunar environment, and high mission cost do not make this challenge easy. This article – published in the March issue of Compositi Magazine – tries to solve the previously mentioned problem, showing the preliminary design of a lightweight and deployable habitat able to ensure long-duration missions on the lunar surface.
