CarbonForm: network of companies in composites

CarbonForm is the name of the network of companies formed by three italian companies from Abruzzo in the field of processing composite materials.
The network contract for the development of ‘press forming‘ technologies – through the conversion to compression molding of carbon fiber parts of a production plant that previously processed metal – was signed a few days ago by ACS – Advanced Composites Solutions, Susta and U.Form.

The facility is located near Villa Zaccheo, in the municipality of Castellalto (Teramo, ITALY) , a few steps from the A14 motorway.

Carbonform, through the skills of the three partners, aims to produce in series, in particular for the automotive sector, a higher number of parts than the traditional technologies of processing composites in an autoclave.

ACS – Advanced Composites Solutions

ACS specializes in the design and production of carbon fiber components and other composites for the automotive, marine, aerospace and industrial sectors.

Susta Srl

Susta specializes in the design and manufacture of stamping equipment for metal deformation with hot and cold process for the automotive industry, with activities ranging from engineering and design to assembly and commissioning.

U.Form

The third partner of the project deals with stamping of machined and semi-finished parts for automotive with hot stamping process and is an integral part of the strategic development plan of two industrial groups, Susta and Tiberina, already partners of European automotive industries.

The use of CFRP can significantly reduce CO2 emissions in transportation, including airplanes and automobiles. However, a lot of CO2s is released during the production of CFRP, and most used and waste materials end up in landfills. With the growing market of CFRP, there is a strong demand for the development of recycling technologies. Toyota Industries have developed technology that aligns recycled carbon fibers from used CFRP into a uniform, consistent yarn, adapting its well-established cotton spinning methods to carbon fiber….
