ASCEND Project to accelerate high volume composite technologies

GKN Aerospace is leading a new UK industry consortium called ASCEND to develop and accelerate composite material and process technologies for the next generation of energy-efficient aircraft and future mobility. The collaboration with other 13 partners will strengthen the UK’s position as a technology leader in future lightweight structures and help to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in the aerospace and automotive industry.

Funded the CEM-WAVE project to reduce the environmental impact of major industries

The CEM-WAVE Novel CEramic Matrix Composites project produced with MicroWAVE assisted Chemical Vapour Infiltration process for energy-intensive industries project is funded under the SPIRE Work Programme of Horizon 2020. The aim of the CEM-WAVE project is to develop low-cost ceramic matrix composites production technologies in order to encourage the introduction of these materials in highly energy-intensive production processes such as steelmaking.

New Direct Mould Tooling Technology for Aerospace

A new direct mould tooling technology for aerospace announced by Decision SA, part of the leading European composites consortium, Carboman Group, and a specialist in the development, prototyping and production of large composite structures. This solution provides OEMs and manufactures with short lead times – as short as six to eight weeks. Direct moulds are highly stable for series production both in and outside of the autoclave at temperatures of up to 180˚C.
