Innovative solutions for structural reinforcement

The company Dr. Günther Kast GmbH & Co. manufactures and markets fibre articles of various kinds for different business sectors such as automotive, composites, construction, etc. In recent years, the use of composite materials in the building sector has been increasing. Kast has developed innovative meshes and fabrics for structural reinforcement systems through a strong collaboration with the Karlsruhe University of Technology (KIT) in Germany.

Position paper Assocompositi sulla circolarità dei compositi

Il 17 gennaio 2022 Assocompositi ha rilasciato il Position Paper “Circolarità dei materiali compositi”. Il documento di posizione è stato sviluppato all’interno del Tavolo di Lavoro Assocompositi sulla Sostenibilità per illustrare le linee guida di una gestione circolare dei prodotti in materiale composito. Si tratta di un importante passo per promuovere un utilizzo sempre più ampio dei componenti in materiale composito che presentano di fatto caratteristiche già perfettamente in linea con un approccio tecnico-economico di tipo circolare.

KIO manhole cover in composite material

In 2010 Industrie Polieco-MPB, a solid European group in the sector of polyolefin compounds and high-density polyethylene corrugated pipe systems, decided to proceed with the development of a project for the construction of a manhole cover in composite material. The composite material used for the production of the manhole cover is KinextTM, a composite material reinforced by long fibers duly distributed inside a thermosetting resin matrix.

Agreement between Hexcel and Fairmat based on carbon fiber prepreg composites recycle

The two companies announced an agreement that aims to recycle carbon fiber prepreg from Hexcel European operations and reuse it for composite panels sold into commercial markets. The project will bring back most of the carbon fiber prepreg cuts generated in Hexcel plants in Europe by the end of 2022. In the light of this partnership, Fairmat will rent a former Hexcel plant in Bouguenais (Loire-Atlantique) where it will recycle the cuts generated during the production of prepreg carbon fiber at the European plants of Hexcel.
